Jersey Shore man arrested for distributing child pornography

On Behalf of | Jun 22, 2021 | Uncategorized

The increasing use of electronic devices to collect, store and distribute information from the Internet has led to an increased frequency of individuals being charged with crimes involving pornography, especially pornography focusing on children. A recent arrest of a man accused of various sex crimes involving children demonstrates how a single lead can draw multiple law enforcement agencies into an investigation of a person who is suspected of collecting and distributing child pornography.

The allegations of criminal activity

Police in southern New Jersey received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children through the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force according to the local prosecutor. The tip identified the suspect as a resident of Brick Township. Detectives obtained a search warrant and searched the suspect’s home. During the search, police officers reportedly found several electronic devices that contained numerous images of child pornography. The suspect was then arrested at his place of employment in Middletown in Monmouth County. He was processed at Brick Township Police headquarters and incarcerated in the Ocean County Jail. He was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. No date has been set for a detention hearing.

In addition to the Brick Township Police Department, several other law enforcement agencies participated in the investigation and arrest: Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

What could happen next?

The defendant in this case faces potentially severe criminal penalties if he should be convicted. Anyone facing similar charges may wish to consult an experienced criminal defense attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can evaluate the evidence, suggest potential legal defenses to the charges, and, if appropriate, assist in negotiating an appropriate plea agreement with the prosecution.
